![]() ![]() In my 20+ years of working with Adobe products, i never got into illustrator. If someone read till here, here is an image of various Illustrations I did in Affinity Designer over past few years Sorry for this huge long text, I just remembered why I loved affinity and felt inspired about it :D Anyway I don't think I could've make it all this easily in Adobe Illustrator or any other vector software, i mean in the end I guess I could, but this wouldn't be so smooth process.Īffinity is not an IDEAL software, it has some problems and limitations, but because of it's rich import/export options, you can easily switch between various softwares to create you visual idea. Some of our junior illustrators worked only in Adobe Illustrator which was also not a problem since we exported vector SVG files back and forth, the general exporting of assets was in Adobe Photoshop which was also easy to do because of Affinity's flexibility. Anyway I had to design this new vector graphical style for characters, with new character structure, full body that can make any pose, with clothes etc, something we never did before, using new software for rendering a character in app, anyway that's a TONS of graphics, i think it's literally thousands of assets, it's like 60 different haircuts, 10 different eyes + 10 emotions for each, noses, mouths, clothes, etc etc, and then there's also stickers, it was a huge amount of work and I easily pulled it up in Affinity Designer. Two years ago I landed on a job with "Stickers with your face" App, exactly like Bitmoji (not it's not it), you know when you take a selfie and see a character with your facial features, and clothes and funny stickers with it. Second is when you get used to it, it's really easy&fast to work with it, you can make a mask like by dropping a layer inside layer (no other software can do that), Third it's amazing flexibility with export, seriously, you can export PSD/SVG, as well as complex stuff like exporting JSON for Spine as it turns out there is one more hidden transparency option, like what the hell man.Īnyway it's not a "I Hate Adobe Illustrator club", but when I found out about Affinity my life as a vector illustrator literally changed, I don't wanna sound cheesy and "commercial-like" but I can tell you exactly why I love it so much and how it affects my professional life,įirst of all it's really fast (great performance), nothing is worse then slow and laggy Graphical Software, although I had some problems with it when I really overloaded with artboards + effects+layers). ![]() As a person who really adore working in various Vector Software, who once upon a time draw a website design in photoshop (yeah that was some years before sketch/figma) I just don't understand, how can a visual software like illustrator, shows you a stupid popup dialog with numbers when you want to transform object? When it's so not obvious that your object is masked? And one of my favorites is when your object is semi-transparent but you see opacity 100%. As a Visual Designer/Illustrator for like 13+ years, I can say that I genuinely hate Adobe Illustrator with all my guts, I just don't get it, as one of the commentators said. ![]()
